Learning To Love The Silence
There’s a side of growth no one really prepares you for.
We hear about the glow-up. The level-up. The breakthrough. The "new season, new me".
We see the confidence, the clarity, the alignment.
But no one talks about the distance.
The quiet. The ache.
The strange in-between space where you don’t fully belong to who you used to be — but you haven’t quite stepped into who you’re becoming either.
Growth is beautiful. But sometimes, it's also incredibly lonely.
Growth isn’t just about becoming better.
It’s about outgrowing. Outgrowing habits. Outgrowing routines. Outgrowing spaces that once felt like home.
And sometimes… outgrowing people... and outgrowing you.
Outgrowing Old Versions of yourself
The version of you that started quiet to keep the peace.
The one that settled just to feel chosen.
The one that laughed things off because honesty felt too uncomfortable.
The one that overextended, over-gave, and over-explained just to feel secure.
At some point, you start to notice that version of you can't come with you anymore.
And though it is a good thing, it still hurts.
Because that version of you kept you safe once. She protected you.
She navigated situations you didn't yet have the tools to handle differently.
She did the best she could with what she knew.
There is grieving in growth. You're releasing an identity.
No matter how beautiful growth can be, it can be equally heartbreaking.
When You Outgrow People
When you start healing, you begin to see clearly who supported you because they loved you -- and who supported you because you made them comfortable.
Some people loved the unhealed version of you.
The one who didn't speak up. The one who was always available. The one who didn't ask for more.
And when you start showing up differently, it disrupts the dynamic.
They may pull away. They may question you. They may say you've "changed."
And you have. That's the point.
Sometimes the connections that felt unbreakable feel… distant.
Not because anyone did something terrible.
Not because there was a dramatic ending.
Just quiet distance.
And that hurts.
Because while part of you understands this is evolution — that this is what forward movement looks like —
another part of you feels the ache of what’s being left behind.
But here’s the truth:
Growth isn’t supposed to be comfortable.
It’s supposed to stretch you.
Pull you forward.
Sometimes… separate you.
Not because you’re better than anyone.
But because you’re becoming aligned.
And alignment can look a lot like solitude for a while.
Some people are chapters, not lifetimes.
Some teach you love. Some teach you boundaries.
And some teach you what happens when you finally choose yourself.
When The Silence Feels Heavy
There's a quiet space between who you were and who you're becoming
You might find yourself:
- Spending more nights alone
- Saying “no” more often
- Choosing peace over chaos
- Choosing truth over approval
At first, it feels like loss.
It's awkward. It's lonely. Sometimes, it's painfully silent.
But what’s really happening is clarity.
You begin to see:
- Who supports you when you’re no longer who you used to be
- Who still shows up when you’re not benefiting them
- Who was meant for a chapter — not the whole book
And sometimes, that realization feels like grief.
I remember walking through a season like this myself.
Everything familiar felt like it was quietly slipping away.
The people I talked to daily started fading out.
No arguments. No explosions. Just space.
At first, I thought I had done something wrong.
I replayed conversations. Wondered what changed.
But the truth was simple:
I had.
I stopped saying “yes” just to keep the peace.
I started saying yes to what aligned with my heart, my family, my goals.
And that shift — as freeing as it was — came with silence.
There were nights I’d sit in my car, have music playing, thinking about how strange it felt to not have as many people around.
But eventually, I realized something...
The quiet wasn’t emptiness.
It was space.
Space to meet myself again.
Space to ask what I actually wanted.
Space to rebuild in alignment.
And underneath the loneliness?
Peace.
Loneliness vs Solitude
There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely.
Loneliness feels like something is missing.
Like you’re waiting for someone to fill the silence.
Solitude feels safe.
It feels like sitting in your own presence without needing to perform, entertain, or meet expectations.
It’s going on a drive alone.
Having coffee with yourself.
Spending a Friday night in without feeling FOMO clawing at your chest.
It’s realizing that not participating isn’t rejection — it’s intention.
Some people struggle with silence.
They need constant background noise — music, TV, scrolling, podcasts — anything to drown out their own thoughts.
Because when it gets quiet, your thoughts get louder.
And not everyone wants to sit with those.
But there is something powerful about learning to enjoy your own company.
To hear yourself think.
To listen to what your body needs.
To notice what your heart is trying to say.
That’s where healing happens.
That’s where you stop building a life based on who you’re trying to please — and start building one rooted in you.
Choosing Presence Over Performance
One of the biggest shifts in my own growth has been learning that I don’t have to be constantly available.
I don’t operate on constant alert.
The people closest to me know that I don’t respond to texts right away.
Sometimes it takes days. Occasionally, weeks even.
Not because I don’t care.
But because I respond when I have the mental space to do it intentionally.
Being constantly reachable doesn’t make you more connected.
It often just makes you more drained.
If I’m with someone, I want to actually be there.
If I’m working, I want to focus.
If I’m resting, I want to rest — without guilt.
It’s not about being distant.
It’s about being deliberate.
Growth teaches you that your peace doesn’t require an explanation.
You’re allowed to:
- Move slower
- Protect your energy
- Choose presence over productivity
- Prioritize what and who is in front of you
And once you do?
Growth stops feeling like isolation — and starts feeling like freedom.
Attracting The Right Energy
Here’s what no one tells you:
When you stop over-functioning…
When you stop chasing…
When you stop forcing connection…
You start attracting people who match your pace.
The ones who don’t panic if you don’t text back in ten minutes.
The low-maintenance friendships.
The “we might not talk for a week but we still love each other” kind.
Those are peaceful relationships.
No drama.
No constant validation.
No shrinking to fit in.
Just grounded, calm connection.
And eventually, the loneliness fades.
Not because you suddenly have more people —
but because the people you do have feel right.
They fit the version of you that fought for peace.
The In-Between Is Sacred
If you’re in that space right now —where growth feels heavy…
or lonely… or confusing…
You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re in transition.
You’re becoming someone who can hold more:
- More depth
- More alignment
- More peace
- More love
And sometimes your world needs time to catch up to who you’re becoming.
Keep going.
Keep choosing yourself — even when it’s quiet.
Even when no one claps for you.
Because one day you’ll look around and realize you’re surrounded by people and energy that match the version of you you worked so hard to become.
And you’ll understand.. Every lonely night was preparation.

Take a moment today to sit in your own presence.
No scrolling. No background noise. No distraction.
Just you.
Remind yourself how far you've come.
Because even when growth feels lonely — you are never truly alone in it.
Gratitude, love, & blessings,
